Feb 13, 2010

I went to work today. Kind of a slow day. But, it's always good to open on Saturday's. After work, I went to the gym where my trainer kicked my behind!! We worked out strong. I even taught him the football move on the ropes. He was embarrassed that I knew it and he didn't!! LOL He's really cute. We always have a good time when he trains me. I call him Jillian from the Biggest Looser!! He says I whine a lot, but like I tell him, I may whine, but I always do the work. He can't argue with me there. He's had me on the spin class bikes. My butt HURTS SOOOOO Bad from that darn twit size seat!! But, I push myself because I have a goal.

After working out, I went home and mowed my lawns. I love watching my neighbors faces when they see me mowing my own lawns. I used to milk cows when I lived in Colorado, and I have my cow milking boots. I always wear those when I mow my lawns so that I don't ruin my tennis shoes. Someone needs to photograph me one day!! LOL

I finally got to work out again. My leg was still bothering me. But not as bad. My poor trainer felt so bad. He thought he killed me. LOL I told him what had happened. He took it easy on me. I still did 11 minutes on the stair master. Not bad considering I took a week off exercising.

Feb 5, 2010

Today, I went to visit my OBGYN. Since all my problems tend to be female related, I went to her and told her what had happened on the 3rd. I informed her this is not the first time this has happened to me. Infact, I have been in the ER 6 previous times for the same exact pain and no one can ever figure out just what is wrong with me.

Since she knows my history, she explained that since I have had 3 surgeries in the same exact spot, I have developed scar tissue and that scar tissue can be extremely painful. It's not worth having surgery to remove it because there is no guarantee it won't come back worse the next time.

So, again, I was ordered not to exercise for a week. NOT HAPPY!!

Feb 3, 2010

Can you believe I ended up in the Emergency Room today!! So, I was complaining about pain yesterday and now I was in even worse pain today. From underneath my stomach shooting straight down my leg. I went into work until 4pm even though I could barely walk or put any pressure on my leg.

I arrived at the lovely Kaisser Permanente in Santa Clara around 4:30pm. They were busy!! I was doubled over in pain as I patiently awaited my turn to go in. Finally at 7pm and me bitching a few times, I got taken to the back. They gave me an IV, gave me morphine to settle the pain, and started their assumptions about what could be wrong with me. I was in so much pain that they gave me a shot of morphine every 30 minutes for the first hour and half and the pain would not subside!! They offered me more, but I was already loopy enough and could not handle anymore.

The ER Doctor was certain it was my psychotic nerve, and kept focusing on that theory. Then around 3am thought it could be my appendix and ordered a cat scan. Cat Scan came back normal, so at 5am, they sent me home with prescription for Tylenol with Codeine and told me no working out for a week. I'm allergic to Vicodin so, Tylenol is what I get.

I came home in pain, took the day off and rested.

Feb. 2, 2010

I went into work early today to get some much needed work done, but, like always, I had appointments I had to get to. So, I could not do what I needed to do. Oh Well, that's how it goes.

I went to the gym for my 5pm training with my trainer. He was telling me he was proud of me beating that Stair Master. He had accused me of having a mental block on that machine. I probably did, but now that I beat it, I feel so much better about it. I have been having pains on my lower stomach again. I have a feeling it's the Diverticulosis acting up again. I hope it's not, because I don't have time to waste. Unfortunately, whenever my Diverticulosis acts up, it keeps me in bed in severe pain for a week. So, I began taking medication to combat it. Hopefully this pain will subside soon.

Anyway, I worked out hard. I see myself getting stronger every day. I can't wait till measurement day so I can see my progress so far.

Feb 1, 2010

I had a successful day today. After only being able to do the Stair Master for 3 minutes and reaching for my inhaler, I went to the gym determined to do 5 minutes on the Stair Master. I ended up doing 20 Minutes!!! I was so proud of myself!! I was smiling and tempted to do the goofy dance when I reached 20 minutes. I could not believe it. I think me resting on Sunday, gave me the strength I needed to accomplish what I did. My trainer was working out another client and I could see he kept watching me. When I got done, I walked up to him and told him 20 MINUTES!! He was really excited because he knows I've been struggling with that machine.

After that accomplishment, I got on the treadmill for another 23 minutes. I wanted to go 3 miles, but my shins began hurting so badly, I had to stop. I need to figure out a way to get my shins to stop hurting to keep me pushing forward.

Sat. Jan 30, 2010

What a crazy day!! I went to sleep at 3am, only to wake up at 6am to go for my first day of training. We had to meet at Campbell Park at 6:45am. A lot of people showed up and quite a few did not. We had to sign in, get name tags, get shoe tags, listen to some speeches and then we were told how to walk. Heal roll to toe. Plus keep arms always bent and moving. Since I normally walk heal to toe, it was second nature to me. We also had to so some basic stretches, that we are required to do before and after our walk. Once we got to finally walk, we did a 3 mile walk. I was surprised when I made it and still had a ton of energy. Keep in mind, I only had 3 hours of sleep.

After training, around 9am, we went to Running Revolution in Campbell and got some education on running shoes and other necessities. I stayed and got fitted for my new running shoes. I haven't worn them yet, so I will have to let you know how they feel after a full day of wearing them.

So, I went home, took a shower, and went to work. I worked till 2:00pm and then had to meet a client at her home at 2:30pm. Stayed there until 3:20pm, and headed on out to 24 Hour Fitness, where I met with my personal Trainer at 4pm.

After I told him everything I had done already, he took it easy on, so he says, but, he still kicked my butt!! It was worth it.

When I finally came home, I took a long HOT bath, made myself some dinner, and began watching a movie. 3 hours later, I woke up to realize I fell asleep on my couch. LOL I was beat!!

The good thing is, I learned I can do a lot with only 3 hours of sleep.

Kick Off Meeting

It was a long day for me. I went to Kaisser to get my inhaler in case I ever need it. I have mild asthma, and have used it very frequently my entire life. Then I had to meet with a claims adjuster to look at my truck, it's now at the shop getting fixed and I have a rental.

After work, I went to the gym and warmed up for 20 min. I did 3 minutes on the stair master. I have not mastered this machine, and those people who can do 30 minutes on it, May God Bless You!! That thing is TORTURE!! Then I did 15 min. on the bikes and 3 minutes of stretching. My trainer met up with me after my warm up and he kicked my butt again!! He knows how to make the sweat just pour out of my body. I make him laugh a lot so it's all good. I like to embarrass him, he gets super red. It's funny.

After working out, I went to the Santa Clara Mariot where we had our Kick Off Meeting. There were SOOOOO many people there!!! I was suprised to see how many people are participating in this marathon. It was very encouraging. The highlight of my night was when this young mother went on stage with her 7 year old daughter who is in remission from MDS. I had tears pouring down my face as I listened to her story.

She laid her healthy baby down to sleep, a few hours later she woke up to her baby screaming. Took her to the emergency room in Los Gatos, and the doctors told her that her daughter most likely had leukemia. She was rushed to the children's hospital. There the doctors told her to prepare for the worse. Her daughter underwent so much treatment and Chemo (need to learn how to spell it) that her little toe nails and fingernails died and fell off, she lost all of her beautiful black hair, and was bleeding from her little mouth and ears. Her mother, watching her suffer, going days without eating because she was scared of she left the room, she would come back and her daughter would have died. Her daughter received her last rights, and her mother, actually gave her permission to die. She couldn't stand to see her daughter in so much pain and go through all of that suffering.

The doctors found a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant and at the last minute, the donor backed out. They found another donor 3 weeks later who was not such a perfect match, but went ahead with the surgery. Her daughters body rejected the new bone marrow and they had several medications to try and make her little body respond. Her daughter had a strong spirit and a huge will to live. She is now 7 years old and has been in remission for the past 5 years. Her mother lives with the fear every single day that the cancer will return.

Seeing that little life on stage and hearing everything she went through, just seems to make all of our problems seem to be so insignificant. And she is such a cutie pie.

After all of us met in the main room, we went to different rooms according to what we are participating in. We met the Captains, Mentors, got our training schedules. They are just like the post man, come rain or shine, we are out there training. So we have to wear layers.

My first official training is Saturday Morning at 7am. I will be doing a 3 mile walk. Shouldn't be too bad since I usually walk fast anyway and when I go to amusement parks, I can walk all day long!! I rarely ever sit unless it's time to eat.

The more I get to meet the survivors, and the people who are currently going through things, the more I see how important everyone's donation's are to find a cure for cancer.

As the mother of the little girl we met today said, "No One should ever have to hear the words You have Cancer"

I agree with her 100%.

Time to go eat some dinner, it's almost 10pm.

Training 1-26-2010

My Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness kicked my butt today!! He thinks I'm insane for working out with him and training for a marathon at the same time. I think it's a good challenge for me. He told me to eat very lean several times a day and to rest a lot.

He's always amazed at how strong I am. I have a lot of endurance and don't like to look like a fool at the gym.

One thing he makes me do is a lot of squats. I HATE sticking my butt out and doing squats. It's embarrassing to me. I'm very shy. That's something people don't realize about me, but I am very shy and don't like to so certain things in front of people.

I'll be seeing my trainer on Thursday and will be working out tomorrow on my own!!

Update on the fundraiser:

I have raised $25.00 of my $2,000 goal so far. I only have $1,975.00 to go!! Whoo Hoo

How I got involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Hello Everyone,

I have never done a marathon in my life. I have never trained for a marathon, and since I have mild asthma, this will be interesting.

I have been hearing the radio stations advertise about the Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and have been wanting to call and get involved. Then, my church was talking about it, and I thought, ok, this must be a sign since it was on my heart already. So, I picked up an application and a brochure about the marathon at my church. Yesterday, my church held a meeting after service with the people from Team in Training. We got to learn about how many people we are actually helping and that over 900,000 American's die each year of some form of blood cancer. We also heard from a survivor who was only given 3 years to live and 8 years later, he's still in remission. It was so inspiring.

Some of the patients in remission will be running and walking with us, and some will be giving us water at the water stops. It brought tears to my eyes to see the hope in their faces. I have a cousin who is in remission from Hodgkins Disease. He too was given a short time to live and has been in remission for over 10 years now.

Team in Training has given everyone a goal of $500 to raise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am challenging myself to raise $2,000 or more. Team in Training will be sending all of us our very own personal website for our family and friends to donate money directly to the foundation. And I will also be collecting checks from friends and family who do no feel comfortable donating using their credit card online.

Here are the steps I have taken so far to help raise money:

I have sent an email blast to over 800 contacts
I have emailed all of my friends and family on Facebook and myspace
I have emailed all of my neighbors
I have emailed all of my contacts on Linked in
I will be donating 1% off all purchases made in my showroom from now until the marathon date.
I will be hosting an open house in my showroom and asking people for donations as well.

I am sure I will be coming up with more ways to be creative and try to raise as much money as I possible can for this worthy cause.

Here are the steps I am taking to prepare for the marathon:

I have a personal trainer who knows my goals
I will be working with the Team in Training Trainers
I have scheduled a physical with my doctor to make sure I have a good inhaler in case I need it.
I will be working out 6 days a week to get in shape for this marathon.

Progress so far:

Since all of my emails this morning, I already have 10 people who want to donate money. I am very excited about this.

Things about Team in Training you may not know:

The Founder of Team in Training had a daughter who was diagnosed with Leukemia
Team in Training offers families money and support to help offset the costly hospital bills

Here is Team in Training's Mission:

To cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma and Hodgkin's Disease, and to improve te lives of patients and their families. When the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was founded, only 4% of children diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood Leukemia, were expected to survive. Today, 85% of the children treated for ALL are expected to live normal, healthy lives. Despite the advances in treatments, leukemia remains the leading desease killer of people under the age of 20. Through programs like Team in Training, the Society raises funds for research, patient services, community education and outreach programs. Team in Training is The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's most successful fundraising program. Since TNT's inception in 1988, more than $600 million has been raised to fight blood-related cancers. And approximately 75% of all money raised by TNT participants goes to research and patients services. Join the team that saves lives!!
